Professional Year

A professional year program is a job readiness program that prepares recent graduates for the relevant industry by combining learning and workplace experience. The professional Year program is offered in 3 disciplines only – Engineering, Accounting and Information Technology.
It is a 12-month program run by approved providers and involves 2-3 months of industry placements. If you are looking to apply for Skilled Migration, doing a Professional year also awards you 5 points towards your application.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PY Program?

Australian Graduates

You must have completed a degree in accounting, computer science or engineering. You must hold a Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485).

Overseas Graduates

You must have completed a degree in accounting, computer science or engineering. You must hold a Skilled-Recognised Graduate Visa (subclass 476). You must also have a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 overall and in each component (or equivalent). Moreover, the applicant must have more than 12 months in hand for a Temporary Graduate 485 visa.

Every education provider has a documented procedure for their transfer policy. You must thoroughly understand your education providers' transfer policy before enrolling with a new education provider. If your education provider does not allow you to transfer to another course/institution, you can appeal against the decision to your education provider. You can also appeal against the institution's decision to the State or Territory Ombudsman or the Overseas Student Ombudsman.

  • Engineering – EA PY Program
  • Information Technology – ACS PY Program.
  • Accounting – CPA SMIPA; CA Australia & New Zealand SMIPA; IPA SMIPA.

What is the program fee for PY?

The program cost for the Professional year varies from institution to institution and within the category you wish to apply for.

How can I apply for a PY Program?

There are only a few recognised and approved providers for the PY program, and the process remains similar to below for these institutes:

  • Submit certified copies of your identity and qualification documents along with the application form & fee.
  • Attend an interview with the provider, either in person or over the phone.
  • The institute issues a Letter of Offer.
  • Accept the offer and submit the program fee.

How much time does it take to enrol in a PY Program? 

It generally takes 30-35 days to get enrolled in a Professional Year program, but you need to be aware of the specific intake dates for your discipline.
